The 2022 iteration of the US Building of the Week began in January with Adjaye Associates' Winter Park Library and Events Center in Florida and wrapped up a few weeks ago with a two-building affordable housing development in The Bronx. In between were a few dozen buildings in a variety of typologies, with educational and cultural projects in abundance, followed by residential (both single- and multi-family), commercial, office, religious, libraries, and infrastructure.

The geographical reach is also diverse, regardless of nearly a quarter of the buildings are found in New York. Multiple buildings are located in California, Oregon, Florida, Illinois, Texas and Maryland, while nearly a dozen states have at least one building: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Taking into account other characteristics — size of projects, new construction vs. adaptive reuse, urban vs. suburban vs. rural, ages of architects/firms, etc. — the assemblage of buildings paints a portrait of American architecture in the third decade of the 21st century and captures some of the trends, architectural and otherwise, preoccupying architects in the country.

Visit the voting page on American-Architects.com to cast a vote for your favorite project. The deadline is Sunday, January 29 and the winner will be announced on Tuesday, January 31 in our Newsletter and on our website.

Throughout the year, buildings are selected by our editors after seeing them firsthand, coming across them online or in print, and/or hearing about them directly from architects. Know of a recent project that should be a US Building of the Week in 2023? Just email us for consideration.
